HPs are standing strong - what an impact!
What a day! After the very serious decision made by thousands of Queensland Health HPs to take industrial action, you have made the news state wide and prompted a huge reaction from government.
Unfortunately, instead of a willingness to bargain in good faith, that response has been more lies, more spin, and more refusals to deal with the real problems of patient care in Queensland.
We're having great reports from HPs across Queensland - on our figures, at least 70% of workers participated in the strike, including those who stayed on at work to deal with emergency needs. HPs at the Mater who couldn't strike due to different laws all wore stickers.
Many HPs have also called their union office to tell us how disgusted they were by the lies being perpetuated by the government. A full-page ad in today's Courier-Mail - paid for by your taxes - made a false comparison between Queensland and interstate HP figures to make it look like you were being paid more than you are. See the real facts here. We have been rebutting these lies in the media all day, including a press conference this afternoon; their lies have been exposed.
Congratulations on an amazing action - the strongest statement made so far in our campaign.
The ridiculous statements being made by the government are clear proof that your actions are sending Queensland Health in to panic mode.
You have continued to make an amazing difference today (some of you will still be on strike up until midnight tonight!).
A huge 24 hours - next step - see if they come back to the table now!
Today is and was a really strong statement. Great effort!
HPs have stood strong and will not back down.
