Meeting with the Treasurer - 2pm
The Treasurer and Acting Health Minister Andrew Fraser has contacted us to organise a meeting for 2pm today to attempt to negotiate a new settlement for HPs.
This is a direct result of the successful action you all took on Wednesday.
2 delegates from the QPSU and 2 delegates from the LHMU along with Alex Scott and Gary Bullock will go to the meeting today.
The amazing efforts of those at the Hervey Bay Hospital who ran a picket all day and gave a leaflet to every patient, those of you who letterboxed in Toowoomba and Cairns, the amazing picket outside Peter Lawlor's office on the Gold Coast, and Paul Lucas's office in Wynnum, the Mt Isa HPs who as brand new activists ran their own protest and made all the papers, the TPCH and Logan pickets, and the huge crowd in Townsville who walked out together on Tuesday afternoon! And of course the thousands of you that participated in so many different ways on strike, in solidarity on Wednesday. We wish we could list you all but this is a short email!
The media coverage from across the state keeps rolling in - there were comments of support from patients, doctors and your fellow members on every channel and in the paper - fantastic stuff!
The next steps will be attending this meeting this afternoon and ensuring that the Treasurer and Acting Health Minister understands that an alternative offer needs to come soon and that lying to the community about what you get paid is not helping their case.
The lies in the Courier Mail advertisement on Wednesday only served to strengthen our resolve - and we will be setting the record straight in this afternoon's meeting as we have been in the media.
We will report back to you after the meeting to let you know what happened.
Your action has made this meeting happen, your delegates at the meeting this afternoon will have the weight of thousands of HPs prepared to strike on their side of the argument.
We'll keep you posted!
